Day 3 of Your Mindful Paganism Series
Listening for Divine Whispers
Are you trying to find your purpose? Are you trying to make good decisions? Are you trying to stay calm in a hectic world? Then please keep reading, Love Bug. This was written for you. “I’m bored” is a phrase I haven’t heard from anyone in years. There is always something to keep you busy: work, Netflix, music, gaming, social media, etc. Who among us hasn’t lost an hour or two to mindlessly scrolling through Facebook or YouTube? I know I sure have.
We have been conditioned to not want to “waste time” by doing nothing. We feel obligated to squeeze some type of activity into every waking moment, not allowing our brains to be fully quiet. Our phones are often the last thing we put down before going to bed and the first thing we check upon waking. We can be reached at any time of the day or night via text, email, or social media messages. You probably wake up to messages left during the night. This can be viewed as “productivity,” but there is a cost: our minds were designed to have some “down time,” and not just when we are asleep. A constant barrage of stimuli can cause you to become frazzled, stressed, and exhausted. It also creates a sense of simply “going through the motions,” not really experiencing life at its fullest.
Mindfulness is being attuned to your body and mind. For example: are you hungry, or mindlessly eating because food is in front of you while you watch TV? Are you drinking coffee because you want to, or is it just what you do every morning? (Nothing against coffee - I adore it.) Mindful Paganism adds a spiritual element to mindfulness, creating a mind-body-spirit connection. In your previous lesson, I gave you some mindfulness exercises to help you create a mindful state. They are simple exercises that can be done pretty much anywhere.
Once you have slowed down and your mind is quiet, then you can listen for the Divine Whispers. These whispers are from the Universe, or the deity/deities you worship. You can start your session with a specific question for guidance, or you can simply open yourself to whatever messages you receive. A word of caution: it won’t be easy at first. If your mind is used to being busy, it will take some time to train your brain to be still. Don’t get discouraged. Keep going. In those still moments you will hear the Divine Whispers. Be willing to seek them.
This is your last lesson for the Introduction to Mindful Paganism, but it's just the beginning! Now you can use Daily Affirmations to keep your stress levels down and to manifest what your Divine Whispers are telling you.
